POLICE have apprehended two suspects and recovered 366 bags of fertilizer following a break-in at the Export Trading Group (ETG) warehouse in Lusaka’s Chinika Industrial area.
The incident, which occurred between 18:00 hours on Saturday, and 06:00 hours on Sunday, involved the theft of 1,500 bags of Urea fertilizer, cash, and other items.
The break-in was reported on Monday morning by the Warehouse Manager, Chetan Lyuvn of Emmasdale.
Acting on the report, police received a tip-off that led to the arrest of Sydney Muma, 44, the driver of the white-man truck, registration number BAR6490, allegedly used to transport the stolen goods.
Police assistant spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, stated that during interrogation, Muma revealed the stolen fertilizer had been moved to Mumbwa.
Following this information, authorities proceeded to Mumbwa, where they apprehended Andrew Hamunji, 38, an agro businessman.
Hamunji was found in possession of 366 bags of Urea fertilizer, each weighing 50 kilograms and bearing ETG branding.
Chilabi said the bags were retrieved from him.
“The vehicle used in the transportation of the stolen goods has been impounded, and both suspects are currently in police custody,” he added.
Following the duo’s apprehension police have revealed that the matter is not yet concluded as Investigations just intensified.
