Windhoek, Namibia – The Zambian delegation to the Region 5 Youth Games, led by Director of Sport Mr. John Chibwana Zulu, has paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia, His Excellency Mr. Stephen Katuka.
During the meeting, Ambassador Katuka congratulated the delegation on the commendable performance recorded so far at the ongoing Games. He praised the athletes for delivering good results across various sporting disciplines and reaffirmed Zambia’s continued warm and cordial relations with Namibia.
However, the High Commissioner noted the trade imbalance between the two countries, highlighting that Namibia currently exports more to Zambia than it imports. He expressed hope that such engagements could also foster deeper economic collaboration.
Director of Sport Mr. Zulu thanked the Zambian Embassy for its unwavering support since the teams’ arrival in Namibia. He particularly acknowledged the High Commissioner’s physical presence at some of the games, which he said significantly boosted the morale of the athletes.
Mr. Zulu also underscored the growing role of sport as a tool for economic development. He reiterated that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts is promoting sport not just as a form of recreation but as a viable industry. He further emphasized President Hakainde Hichilema’s stance that there is no minor sport in Zambia, and all disciplines are equally important.
He also reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusivity, stressing that both boys and girls are being given equal opportunities to excel through sport.
