RPP Reports Mr. Makebi Zulu to LAZ Over Misconduct Concerns
Lusaka,14th July 2025-The Republican Progressive Party (RPP) wishes to inform the general public and members of the media that our party, through the office of the Secretary General, has today formally reported Mr. Makebi Zulu to the Legal Practitioners Committee of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).
This action has been taken in response to Mr. Zulu’s recent public conduct, particularly surrounding the funeral arrangements of the late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. His statements and actions, in our view, fall short of the decorum and professional ethics expected of a legal practitioner in the Republic of Zambia.
As a party committed to upholding the rule of law and democratic values, we found it necessary to raise this complaint in order to:
• Safeguard the integrity of the legal profession, which must remain impartial, professional, and above political manipulation;
• Call upon LAZ to offer clear and consistent guidance to all legal practitioners on appropriate public conduct, especially when handling matters of national importance;
• Ensure that young and upcoming lawyers understand the boundaries of legal practice, particularly the distinction between legal representation and political activism.
The legal profession remains one of the pillars of justice and national unity. Therefore, any conduct that risks discrediting the profession must be addressed decisively. We trust that the Legal Practitioners Committee will handle this matter with the seriousness it deserves and hope that our concerns will be addressed as soon as possible.
