A 43-year-old man from Mazabuka has been arrested after his wife reported him to the police for being in possession of 114 National Registration Cards (NRCs) and 11 ATM cards, all held without lawful authority.
Jonathan Nawa, a resident of KLB Compound, was summoned to the Victim Support Unit at Mazabuka Central Police Station following a domestic complaint filed by his wife. During the interview, it was alleged that Nawa had been using the documents to fraudulently access benefits from the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA).
Police officers conducted a search of the suspect’s bag and vehicle, leading to the recovery of the 114 green NRCs and 11 ATM cards. The items have since been submitted to the Department of National Registration, Passports and Citizenship for verification.
In a statement issued by Moono Namalongo, Deputy Commanding Officer for Southern Province, Nawa has been charged and arrested for the offence of Found in Possession of a Green National Registration Card, and is expected to appear in court soon.
