Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu has appealed to Zambians in the political spectrum to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation amidst former President Edgar Lungu’s funeral battle that has since found itself in a foreign court.
In a national address, Njobvu said Zambians must rise above politics of hate and division, as well tribalism, but embrace the spirit of unity.
“We are all human, living by God’s grace, and we will all be judged by history, by prosperity, and not by how much power we hold. Let us lead with empathy and serve with integrity,” Njobvu said.
Njobvu stated that Lungu’s funeral has exposed the lack of unity in the country.
“We are not united as ought to be, being a christian nation. This moment calls for deep reflection and earnest prayer that we may walk together in unity and learn to live as one people,” he said.
The opposition leader further advised politicians that holding on to bitterness only robs one the chance to heal.
“In death, we are reminded of our shared humanity. I urge all citizens, especially leaders across the political spectrum to still approach this moment with dignity, humility and respect,” he said.
Njobvu added that Lungu’s burial should be a moment of national unity, and not that of divisions like currently happening.
“The strength of any government is not only in its policies, but in its willingness to engage with the people it serves,” he said.
Let’s embrace forgiveness and reconciliation as christians – Njobvu
