Catholic Bishops Reject Bill 7 and State Manouvres to Retable it Before Parliament
…reject secret interviews and appointments of judges and call for a transparent process…
11. We, the Catholic Bishops of Zambia reaffirm our principled disapproval of the revised Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025. The said Bill, in its current form, does not uphold the foundational values of participatory democracy, transparency, and constitutional integrity. There is need to initiate a genuinely inclusive, consultative process citizens, civil society, faith-based that respects the voices of all stakeholders
institutions, traditional authorities, and legal experts.
12. Further, in the spirit of constitutional fidelity and national unity, we strongly urge that the ongoing judicial appointments process be reconsidered. The process must at all times and stages meet the standards of transparency, merit, and public accountability that our democracy demands.
13. We exhort all Zambians to remain united as One Zambia One Nation in ensuring the steady growth of our young democracy for a better Zambia that will be a pride of future
generations.
The issue of funeral for Edgar lungu you decided to remain quite and supported the family to bury him in south Africa. Catholic bishops you teach us to hate one another not love.
It is good that the Catholic misleaders are exercising their democratic right. And it is good that their sentiments are documented.
The Catholic misleaders need to understand that they are just a part of the wider community, not the community in it’s entirety. They are abusing their religious position to dictate public opinion without debating the pros and cons of the actual content of bill 7. This is a clear red flag. The people’s democratically elected leaders will debate the content of bill 7. The House of Parliament are open to the public and Catholic misleaders are free to contribute to the debate via their respective members of parliament. And subsequent to that debate, a vote will be cast to decide the ultimate future of the content of bill 7.
I have also asked those against the proposed amendment to show which part(s) are not good so that may be we can understand, may be even support them, but up to now, NON has given the bad part(s) shown that. They are only saying it is bad.
In my opinion, I am not sure the Council of Bishops is still neutral and non partisan. It seems to me that their moral campus has been blurred and magnetised towards a certain direction
The Catholic Bishops are speaking for the entire country, except Southern province which is SDA. I hope that when he returns from the Freemasonry conference in Scotland, he will withdraw this satanic bill 7, and abide by the ruling of the constitutional Court that told him it was an illegal manoeuvre. Let us jointly remove this corrupt conman from office next year.
REJECT TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION AND OPPRESSION.
VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.
Why some people have a propensity to do wrong things beats mind.
The Constitutional Court ruled that the Process to come up with Bill 7 was illegitimate and Illegal.
And here we are, Mr Hakainde Hichilema doesn’t want to listen to the Country ‘s courts..and he doesn’t want to listen to anyone at all. The only thing is his ‘ Stealthy ‘ Agenda for a Hegemony.
Having tasted Power, he wants his own to keep it in Perpetuity.
The only thing such stubborn people can listen to is Impeachment. If the Illegal and Illegitimate Bill 7 is brought back to Parliament, may the Wheels of Impeachment against the Speaker and President start Rolling.
This is how Leaders Fail.
Which process are you talking about? Where is the law which require parliament to consult people before tabling it in the house? Since you don’t know, it’s only part 3 (human rights) of the constitution which require a referendum to change it, any other part of the constitution, parliament does not need any consultation. Consultation are only done as courtesy, not a legal requirements to amend a constitution. Please educate yourself before commenting on things which surely are beyond your understanding. By the way, was the said process you are talking about followed in 2016, 1996 and 1991?
Sometimes I wonder who the Catholic Bishops stand for? Wherever there is chaos they are NOT far away. German genocide – bishops were saluting with Hitler, Rwanda genocide, slave trade and even the decisions seem to be NOT different from what they claim. They seem NOT to be always on the side of truth. Let them be open as to who they are!!!
Catholic bishops and their Alick banda have done well to reject bill 7 so that us who want it will enjoy it’s fruit. They can infact concentrate on thier homily or mass as they call it and enjoy their wine but they don’t need to force people because it is their personal choice. I mean individuals
