THE confusion in the Patriotic Front (PF) has reached boiling point after Acting faction President Robert Chabinga announced that he is closing the party’s Lusaka Secretariat, accusing some members of using it as a base for ‘criminal and clandestine activities.’

Speaking during a press briefing in Mafinga this morning, Chabinga said he could no longer tolerate the lawlessness that had engulfed the PF, warning that the party’s once-respected Secretariat had now turned into a breeding ground for disorder.
“I am instructing the Secretary General, to write to the Inspector General of Police and to begin legal proceedings against those using the PF Secretariat with impunity,” Chabinga declared.
“Upon my return to Lusaka, the PF Secretariat will be closed immediately.”
Chabinga said his decision follows reports that a group of members had turned the Secretariat into a venue for illegal meetings and a launchpad for planned demonstrations to undermine his leadership.
“I allowed the Secretariat to operate because we were in a mourning period and I did not want to disturb the peace,” he said.
“But now people are using it for their own criminal activities that has to stop.”
He warned that the PF would not allow a few individuals to bring the party into disrepute, stating that true members should follow the law and engage through proper party channels.
The Mafinga lawmaker also distanced the ruling UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema from the PF’s internal wrangles, saying those dragging the Head of State into opposition chaos were simply being dishonest.
Chabinga admitted that senior PF figures had failed to reorganise themselves, describing the ongoing infighting as embarrassing and destructive.
Today it has been a busy and chaotic day for the opposition as different party leaders issued conflicting statements, adding to the growing sense of division among opposition ranks.
