Acquire to Share Foundation has launched a feeding program for vulnerable children and uses the platform to educate members of the community on Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Meanwhile, over 300 vulnerable children, together with their mothers have been successfully registered as beneficiaries in the initiative.
Speaking during the launch in Chongwe’s Chikonkoto village, Acquire to Share Foundation executive director, Victoria Kayeye Yambani said the initiative is aimed at assisting vulnerable children in the community.
Yambani said the foundation decided to launch the program in Chongwe being a district where the organization has procured a piece of land for the construction of a community school.
She said about 300 children have been targeted in its initial phase once project is completed, but that in the meantime, the foundation continues supplementing government’ effort in alleviating poverty among vulnerable persons, hence, the feeding project.
Yambani said the feeding program was an initiative that the foundation thought would bring people together, sharing not just meals, but sensitizing children about abuse against the girl child and boys as well.
“We though of launching the program here where we are building a community school. We are using this initiative to raise awareness against all forms of child abuse in the community,” Yambani said.
Yambani further thanked cooperating partners and sponsors, among them, information permanent secretary Thabo Kawana who she said had been very supportive to the initiative.
She added that the foundation intends to be having the program at least twice a month with an objective of promoting conversations on child abuse in the targeted community.
Speaking at the same event, foundation’s board member, Thokozile Malawo stated that the recent increase in GBV cases required a concerted effort to be stopped.
Among the measures she suggested were that harsher punishments should be given to deter would – be perpetrators.
Malawo was hopeful that the initiative brought together hundreds of members of the community in Chongwe beyond the numbers that the foundation had anticipated.
Chikonkoto village trustee, Victor Shimumba commended the foundation for the initiative, words echoed by Shisholeka village sectary Adrian Mumba, as well as parents that attended the launch.
Acquire to Share Foundation is a non – governmental organization committed to helping vulnerable persons in the country with basic necessities of life.
