Boy Child Advocacy Zambia Decries Silence and Mockery Over Male Sexual Abuse
Boy Child Advocacy Zambia has condemned the continued societal neglect of male victims of sexual violence following a disturbing report involving an 18-year-old motorbike rider in Kasempa District who was allegedly raped by a group of women.
According to North-Western Division Commissioner of Police Brighton Siwale, the incident occurred on September 17, 2025, around 22:00 hours in Kikonkomene Village.
The victim, who sustained injuries to his private parts, reported that he was lured into a house under the pretext of payment and later coerced into unprotected sex under threats from two other women present.
The case, now under investigation, has sparked national concern. Boy Child Advocacy Zambia says the incident exposes a dangerous cultural blind spot: the assumption that boys cannot be victims of sexual abuse.
Director of Media and Publicity for Boy Child Advocacy Zambia, Kanchele Kanchele, said rape should not be treated as a gendered crime, as trauma is not selective and justice must not be partial.
“The boy child continues to bleed in silence while society watches. This complacency must end,” he said.
Mr. Kanchele further noted that while the Community Development Minister recently proposed a law to castrate convicted rapists—a move widely seen as a response to the rising cases of violence against girls—there remains no equivalent urgency or protection for boys.
“We must ask: where is the same fire when the victim is male? Laws must protect all children, not just some,” he added.
The organization also referenced a recent case in Kitwe’s Kapoto Township, where a 4-year-old boy was allegedly tortured and dumped unconscious in a pit latrine.
The child, missing for days, was discovered by community members and rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital with medical assessments confirming signs of torture.
“This is not just violence—it is a deliberate attempt to erase the boy child,” Mr. Kanchele said.
He urged media houses to report male sexual violence with the same urgency and sensitivity afforded to female cases, and called on law enforcement to investigate without bias.
He said Communities must break cultural taboos that prevent boys from speaking out.
Boy Child Advocacy Zambia also appealed to policymakers to continue strengthening legal frameworks that recognize and respond to male victimhood, adding that educators and parents should teach boys that seeking help is not shameful.
As investigations continue, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to protecting, empowering, and amplifying the voice of the boy child—calling for a Zambia where justice is not gendered, and silence is no longer the norm.
