In an effort to promote sports development, and youth football in particular, Chinese – owned Airnumi New Energy Zambia has handed over 500 soccer balls to the ministry of youth, sport and arts.
The soccer balls procured at K400, 000 were handed over to the ministry at the National Sports Council of Zambia in Lusaka.
Speaking during the donation, Zambia – Chinese association chairman Wu Ming said the gesture is not only part of the company’s corporate social responsibility as a member of the association, but a commitment towards sports development for the youth in Zambia.
Ming further pledged continued support to various sports disciplines in the country as a way of supplementing government’ effort.
“It is our role as the business community to give back to the community we operate from. Therefore, this donation of soccer balls is one of the many that our members have done in promoting sports development in these communities,” Ming said.
Speaking at the same event, Airumi company general manager Alex Huang said the enterprise felt compiled to supporting youth sport as a foundation for the development of Zambian football.
Haung added that his company values the community it operates from, hence, empowering the ministry with the items.
Meanwhile, youth, sports and arts minister Elvis Nkandu described the donation as meaningful investment as far as sports development involving young people is concerned.
“The gesture by Airumi and Chinese association in general is a shining example of the positive impact, strong private, public partnerships, and we commend the company for looking beyond it’s commercial interest by investing in grassroot football which is in line with what we are doing as a ministry,” he added.
The soccer balls will be strategically distributed to various districts across the country.
