… says lot of girls suffer from identity crisis due to social media pressure
By Francis Chipalo
Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu, over the weekend delivered an uplifting statement at a girls boot camp held at Sanctuary of Mercy in Lusaka.
Sanctuary of Mercy overseer, Rev. Maria Sadoki organized the boot camp that brought together girls from different backgrounds.
The boot camp was aimed at empowering the girl child with life skills as well as supporting them intellectually and spiritually.
The Democratic Union leader graced the camp as guest of honor.
In his statement to the girls, president Njobvu noted that a lot of girls were facing identity crisis due to pressure from their peers.
Njobvu advised the girl child to desist from admiring certain lifestyles they see from people on social media, stating that most of such lifestyles are fake.
Njobvu encouraged the girls to know their worth by pursuing good things that can add value to their lives.
He also advised the girl child to mingle with women who were making headlines such as Mizinga Melu, the Absa bank managing director, as opposed to following social media celebrities whose lifestyles are mostly fake and just for fame.
The opposition leader pledged the DU’s commitment towards supporting initiatives aimed at empowering the girl child and women, stating that that is the main reason his party, given a chance to rule, would ensure that all provincial ministers are women.
“This is because of how our mothers handle things in our homes. I believe making them provincial ministers would be the best thing to do,” he said.
President Njobvu also commended Rev. Sadoki for organizing the boot camp.
Meanwhile, president Njobvu also gave out sanitary pads to girls at the boot camp just to see them through.
The same kits were also donated to Mercy Foundation of Zambia for children with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Rev. Sadoki said the gesture by president Njobvu was timely.
She also encouraged the girl child to work with innovative persons like president Njobvu a, man she said had great ideas for the country.
