Democratic Union (DU) secretary general Kaunda Phiri has expressed happiness with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) engagement with stakeholders in the electoral process.
The ECZ on the 15th of this month held a stakeholders meeting at the Mulungushi international conference center in Lusaka.
The engagement was aimed at updating stakeholders on the 2026 general elections road map and voter registration technologies.
The DU SG described the meeting as engaging and important in ensuring that transparency takes place in next year’s elections.
“We received updates on the election road map, including the overall plan and timeline for the 2026 general elections, with key milestones and deadlines,” Phiri said.
Phiri commended the election body for among others, publicity initiatives on voter registration.
The initiatives will utilize various channels, including community meetings, door – to – door campaigns, infotainment and sensitization via various media platforms.
Phiri said the engagement demonstrated ECZ’ commitment to transparency and accountability.
“As secretary general of the Democratic Union, I was honored to have represented our party at this meeting which is key ensuring that next year’s election process is transparent,” he added.
Meanwhile, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zalomis expressed happiness with Democratic Union’s participation in recent by – elections.
The DU has so far participated in the Petauke and Pambashe by-elections despite few months of its launch.
The party SG further stated that the DU shall continue participating in future elections as it is focussed on forming government in 2026 with Ackim Antony Njobvu as president.
