A former convict from Stage 2 Compound in Mazabuka, Victor Mabebo, is on the run after he reportedly defiled a 9-year-old girl who he lured to his house on a promise of giving her a K5.
The incident was reported to Mazabuka Central Police on 27th April, 2025, at 20:46 hours by the victim’s 36-year mother, who indicated that the girl had sustained vaginal injuries.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, tells Byta FM News in a statement that on the material day around 14:00 hours, the victim’s mother had sent the girl to purchase something.
Daka says it was there the girl encountered the suspect, who offered her K5 and lured her to his house where he defiled the child and released her.
He notes that a neighbor of the suspect observed the girl exhibiting unusual behavior and aware of Mabebo’s status as an ex-convict, the neighbor suspected wrongdoing and confronted him about his interaction with the minor.
Upon being questioned, the suspect fled the scene, leading the the neighbor to alert the victim’s mother, who subsequently reported the incident to Mazabuka Police Station.
Daka says a medical report form was issued and the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
