PUPILS at Zambezi Sawmills Community School now have a reason to smile as the school officially received its newly renovated kitchen yesterday, a project made possible through a partnership between Minor Hotels Zambia and government efforts to improve community well-being.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Tourism and area member of parliament, Rodney Sikumba, said the facility represents more than just physical infrastructure as it is an investment in the future of the children and the community at large.
Sikumba described the initiative as a vital contribution towards education and community development.
“This renovated kitchen is more than bricks, mortar and utensils, it is a tool for social transformation. It ensures that learners will have nutritious meals, which are essential for academic performance, personal growth, and national productivity,” Sikumba said.
Meanwhile, Livingstone mayor Constance Muleabai, commended Minor Hotels for their continued support to the school, noting that the project complements government’s efforts to enhance access to quality education.
“A hungry child cannot concentrate, cannot thrive, and cannot reach their potential. That is why this new kitchen is so important, because feeding learners is part of educating them,” Muleabai said.
The Mayor added that free education provided under the UPND government must be supported with adequate facilities to ensure pupils learn in conducive environments.
The facility is expected to improve the school’s feeding programme and enabling pupils to access nutritious meals while in class.
Minor Hotels Zambia has over the years supported Zambezi Sawmills Community School through classroom rehabilitation, provision of materials and now, the kitchen renovation.
