THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has rolled up its sleeves and declared a full-scale war on vandals who have turned public infrastructure into their personal treasure troves, with illegal car washes leading the crime parade.

LCC stated that it will not sit by and watch lawbreakers illegally disconnect water pipes in the Central Business District (CBD) just to fill up buckets for their booming car wash businesses.

“Anyone found guilty of perpetrating illegality will face the full force of the law,” warned LCC public relations manager, Chola Mwamba.

LCC, in collaboration with the Zambia Police, has intensified joint operations aimed at tracking down these culprits.

The Council says while it appreciates entrepreneurship, it will not allow economic growth to be built on the foundation of vandalism and illegality.

According to the Council, some illegal car wash owners have gone as far as tampering with water reticulation systems, leaving some areas dry, all in the name of rinsing vehicles.

The Local Authority urged all residents and business owners to follow proper procedures for establishing car washes and other businesses, stressing that ignoring these rules is a guaranteed ticket to serious punishment.

Meanwhile, the LCC has pledged to continue supporting businesses that operate within the law, noting that orderly development is key to economic progress in the city.
