Democratic Union president Ackim Antony Njobvu says continued load shedding has caused people to frequent bars and beer halls to charge their gadgets.
Njobvu says Zambians are being forced to take alcohol when they visit drinking places to charge their phones.
He says the trend cannot continue.
“Friends, you cannot continue charging phones and other electronic devices from bars and night clubs aikona bane,” he posted on his Facebook page.
And Njobvu has dismissed maintenance works as reasons behind Zesco’s increased load shedding hours of about 18 hours a day in some areas.
“This is total failure and nothing more. What happened to their Dubai example of the country being a desert and yet doesn’t experience load shedding? Rhetoric as it were,” he said
Njobvu has since alleged that government is forcing people to become drunkards by failing to address load shedding.
“People are now frequenting beer halls to make use of gensets to charge their gadgets and end up consuming alcohol.
We need to kick them (UPND) out next year because they clearly have no idea on managing this electricity crisis,” he added.
“The sky is blue and so is the future of this country. Vote Democratic Union and thank me later,” said.
