Speaking at State House during a meeting with the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) today, President Hichilema emphasised the importance of fair pricing and timely delivery of goods, describing these measures as critical to lowering the cost of doing business and ultimately reducing the cost of living for Zambians.

The President warned against the practice of instant price hikes when fuel costs increase, followed by prolonged delays in passing on reductions to consumers, a scenario he described as unfair and counterproductive.

“Inject a fair price in your products and services. When the fuel price goes up, you instantly increase your prices. When the fuel prices go down, [you complain] …no we have old stocks. Old stocks are not moving for one month, two months, three months, Mr. Chairman, this is a partnership we would like to see,” President Hichilema told ZAM chairman.

“When we inject a fairer price, it means that the whole economy begins to reduce the cost of business as intended. And therefore the cost of living as intended.”

The Head of State described the relationship between government and the private sector as a partnership, noting that collaboration between the two was key to sustaining economic growth, stabilizing the kwacha, and creating a favorable environment for local businesses to thrive.

President Hichilema’s call comes as Zambia continues to experience a downward trend in inflation and a strengthening local currency, following government measures to stabilize the economy.
