A 29-year-old man of Lusaka’s Mtendere East Township has narrated in Matero Local Court that he left his matrimonial home after he found a nude picture of another man on his wife’s WhatsApp.
Kennedy Mwenda, who confessed to impregnating his sister-in-law, told the court that his wife, Emelda Muyunda, 28, was conversing with the man whom he suspects is her boyfriend.
“In their conversation, she responded to the image of his manhood with, ‘ioneka mushe, niyikulu zoona (it looks nice and it’s really big). That’s when I discovered she also has a boyfriend,” he said.
This was a matter in which Muyunda sued Mwenda for divorce for impregnating her younger sister and his promiscuous behaviour.
The couple got married in 2022 and has one daughter aged two.
“It is because of her nagging that she pushed me to her younger sister, and I started developing interest in her. That led to the pregnancy. She is also fond of using charms, which she puts on my clothes, including my underwear and shoes, to prevent me from flirting with other women,” he said.
Mwenda told the court that when the illicit affair was discovered, he admitted the mistake and asked his wife for forgiveness, but she used it as a weapon to torment him every time they argued.
But in her statement, Muyunda said she only enjoyed her marriage for two months after they got married.
Muyunda said she was fed up with Mwenda because he never stopped womanising even after he apologised for having impregnated her 15-year-old younger sister.
“She’s the last-born in my family and we are not in good terms anymore. It was an embarrassment but two months later, he started dating my neighbour. After another two months, he went to Misisi Township and started dating Bridget,” she said.
“I took him back after an apology, but after a week again, he started going back to Bridget. He stopped giving me his salary. Now, I am tired, I don’t want this marriage.”
Magistrate Lewis Mumba granted a divorce and ordered Mwenda to compensate Muyunda with K6,000 and to support the child with K500 monthly. The custody of the child was given to the mother.
