A 60-YEAR-OLD man from Sinazongwe District in Southern Province has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
According to Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka, preliminary investigations suggest the murder may be linked to community leadership disputes or suspicions of witchcraft.
The incident occurred last Friday around 21:00 hours and was reported to the police on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Oldwell Siamunyangwa, was allegedly shot on the road from Chikelo Fishing Village to his residence in Nakasanga village.
“On Friday around 08:00 hours, a Mr Fred Mukonka, of Nakasanga village, picked up the deceased to go and drink beer at Chikelo Fishing Village.
“Later that evening, while having supper with his wife, his son heard a gunshot a few metres from his house. He went to check and found his father lying lifeless in a pool of blood near a mobile phone emitting light,” Mr Daka said.
Mr Daka said police are investigating the matter and that no arrest has been made.
