Business mogule, Dr. Rozious Siatwambo has warned that social media is increasingly becoming a source of pressure for young men, forcing many into fear, low self-esteem, and reluctance to marry.

Speaking yesterday at the Boys to Men Conference at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Dr. Siatwambo observed that modern societal pressures, especially those amplified by social media competition have left a number of men struggling with anxiety, financial stress and hopelessness.

He explained that comparisons with online lifestyles have created unrealistic expectations, with many young men now feeling inadequate when they cannot match the flashy gifts, expensive cars, and high spending habits often displayed by their peers.

“Most men are now afraid of marriage because of pressure. You look at social media, someone is gifting a Mercedes Benz, but when you check your pocket, you don’t even have a simple phone. So most men just stand and watch from a distance because of competition,” Dr. Siatwambo said.

Drawing from his own story, Dr. Siatwambo revealed how he grew up in the village, battled low self-esteem, repeated grades at school and even sold vegetables and second-hand clothes on the streets before he turned his life around.

Today, he is a successful entrepreneur and educationist, running an empire that includes schools, resorts, farms, and a foundation named after him, that mentors thousands of youths.

Dr Siatwambo, who is the chief visionary officer of Great North Road Group of Companies urged young men not to give in to pressure or despair but to see challenges as a process of becoming stronger.

He emphasised that building a man takes time and resilience.

“Life will never be smooth, but challenges are not meant to destroy you. They are meant to enlarge your mental and emotional capacity,” he encouraged.

The Boys to Men Conference, held under the theme “Building the Men of Tomorrow,” focused on empowering young men to overcome social pressures, avoid destructive lifestyles and embrace responsibility.
