MOVEMENT for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) leader Nevers Mumba has implored citizens to embrace compassion and unity, and reject the harsh words that demean the dignity of former president Edgar Lungu, amid the repatriation process.

Dr Mumba declared that making comments like ‘akatumbi’ is very un-Zambian, un-christian and shameful.

His comment comes in light of a video circulating on social media, of Lungu’s body being referred to as ‘akatumbi,’ (a small or insignificant corpse).

However, Dr Mumba described this behaviour as unacceptable and going against Zambian values.

Dr Mumba made it clear that such language, regardless of political affiliations, diminishes the sanctity of human life and undermines the principles of unity and respect that are essential to a healthy and harmonious society.

He called for greater mindfulness in both personal interactions and online discourse, reminding Zambians of their obligation to act with respect and integrity.

“Let us be mindful of our words and actions,
whether in person or on social media. God is watching, and such behaviour does not benefit anyone. Small though they may seem, these acts have the potential to erode the blessings bestowed upon our nation,” he stated.

“This behaviour is very shameful, not Zambian and not christian.”

He called on the UPND leadership to take a public stance against such behaviour as the video was produced by a supporter.

“I call on the public to refuse to engage in such mockery of the dead,” he said.

Dr Mumba further shared that it is heartening that the suspected cadres involved in the mockery have faced widespread condemnation from Zambians of all political affiliations.

He added that there is need to let Zambia choose the higher road.
