The Patriotic Front (PF) has defended the Tonse Alliance constitution, describing it as a genuine and progressive framework aimed at safeguarding democracy, unity, and accountability in Zambia.
PF officials dismissed claims by the Republican Progressive Party (RPP) that the document is irregular or dangerous, insisting instead that it represents a collective commitment to good governance and inclusivity. They argued that the alliance constitution was born out of broad consultations among stakeholders, political players, and citizens who desired a structured way of working together.
Contrary to assertions that the PF is exclusionary, party leaders maintained that the PF has always embraced Zambians from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or profession. They reminded the nation that during PF’s time in government, thousands of teachers, nurses, and doctors were recruited without discrimination, and infrastructure development projects were rolled out across the country, benefiting both ruling party members and non-members alike.
On the matter of the late President Edgar Lungu’s funeral, PF representatives argued that what RPP termed as “restrictions” were merely organizational and security measures, not acts of exclusion. They emphasized that the event was a state function open to all Zambians, including opposition leaders, church representatives, and civil society.
PF further rejected the portrayal of its past leadership as violent, clarifying that while some challenges existed with cadres—as in any political system—the party consistently worked with law enforcement to restore order. They also accused RPP of trying to rewrite history to suit narrow political interests.
Highlighting the importance of the Tonse Alliance constitution, PF leaders said it serves as a foundation for political cooperation, national reconciliation, and collective decision-making. They stressed that it is legally binding among signatories and demonstrates maturity in Zambia’s multiparty democracy.
The PF concluded by reminding citizens that their vision is one of inclusivity, economic growth, and empowerment of ordinary Zambians. They urged the public not to be misled by divisive statements but to judge the PF based on its track record of development and its ongoing commitment to building a united Zambia.
