Choma central parliamentary hopeful Joe Muchindu has expressed sadness at revelations that Sibanyati health post in Stateland ward had been operating without adequate facilities, among them toilets for patients.
This was brought to light during a meeting addressed by Muchindu who visited the area to appreciate people’s challenges.
The residents disclosed that the lack of enough toilets had been inconveniencing patients whenever they go to seek medical services at the rural-based health facility.
They said despite bringing the matter to the attention of local leadership, this had fallen on deaf ears.
The affected community said this had compromised people’s health.
And Muchindu described the situation as unfortunate.
As a matter of urgency, Muchindu has purchased some pockets of cement for the construction of the much – needed convenience facilities.
“I have also learnt that the health Post does not have mattresses as the ones it had had worn-out. We have also bought these mattresses so that our people can enjoy quality health services as this is the desire of President Hakainde Hichilema and the new dawn government,” Muchindu said.
Muchindu also told residents that it was sad that when President Hichilema was striving to better people’s lives, some individuals working with him were doing the opposite.
He highlighted the free education policy, cash for work, youth empowerment as some initiatives worth commending President Hichilema.
In receiving the items, Sibanyati rural health post in – charge, Hansumo Luyando said Muchindu’s intervention was timely.
The medical practitioner said the mattresses as well as pockets of cement would go a long way in ensuring that patients have access to the desired quality health services.
“Our infrastructure is dilapidated and we are lucky to have survived the previous rainy season. This gesture by Mr. Muchindu is timely,” he said.
Meanwhile, locals in the area, among them, village headmen have declared support for Muchindu as their next member of parliament.
The residents said current MP Cornelius Mweetwa had overstayed, stating that the chief government spokesperson currently appears to have lost touch with the electorates in the area.
