PATRIOTS for Economic Progress (PEP) leader Sean Tembo has thrown his full support and his wallet behind the family of the former president Edgar Lungu, following a decision by the Johannesburg High Court to block an appeal against the repatriation of Lungu’s body.

Tembo, who is also the spokesperson for the Tonse Alliance announced a personal donation of K10,000 to help the Lungu family cover legal fees as they explore further legal options.
“I wish I could do more but even this is a small step to ensure president Lungu’s legacy is not dragged through political mud,” he said.
The South African High Court yesterday dismissed the Lungu family’s application for leave to appeal a ruling that gave the Zambian government the green light to repatriate Lungu’s remains for a State Funeral.
The family had argued for a private burial in South Africa, citing the late president’s alleged wishes.
Tembo, however, said the court’s refusal to even allow the family a chance at a second legal opinion was biased.
According to Tembo, blocking an appeal raises concerns about fairness and transparency in the judicial process.
He argued that the family should have been given a chance to seek a second legal opinion from a higher court.
“This is more than just a legal disagreement, it feels like the court is protecting government interests over the family’s rights,” he said.
The opposition leader believes that the Lungu family should have the final say in where and how the former president is laid to rest.
“Denying them that right disrespects both the late president’s legacy and his personal wishes,” said Tembo.
