A three-week-old infant has allegedly been murdered by his biological father in Kabanana Village, Zozwe Trading Centre, Chief Pembamoyo’s area Vubwi District.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2025, around 12:00 hours.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has identified the victim as Aposalypis Kwenda who sustained a suspected fractured head believed to have been caused by an unknown instrument.
Investigators are examining whether the infant was struck against a wall or with an object.
Preliminary investigations suggest marital disputes may have led to the tragic event.
Police arrested the suspect, Michael Kwenda, 35 who is also the infant’s father.
However, Kwenda was later admitted to Vubwi District Hospital after allegedly ingesting poison in an attempt to take his own life. His condition is reported as stable.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Chipata Central Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
