Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu says foreigners disguised as investors cannot be dealing in businesses that locals can easily do.
And Njobvu says the biggest challenge with the New Dawn government is the appetite for foreign direct investment.
He says, whilst foreign investment is needed, focus should be local investment by Zambians themselves.
Njobvu insists that Zambia has enough resources to develop, and that the country cannot continue to depend on foreign investment.
He says it is unfortunate that an influx of foreigners had engaged in business activities which should have been a preserve of Zambians.
The outspoken politician is of the view that foreign investors should be restricted to among others, manufacturing and value – addition, as opposed to engaging in trade such as grocery, block making, chicken raring and similar businesses.
He says real investment by foreigners should have an impact on the locals.
The opposition leader made the statement when he featured on Millennium TV, Monday night where he said the next budget should also prioritize local investment for sustainable national development.
Meanwhile, Njobvu added that the recently released school results were an indication that a lot still need to be done in the country’s educational sector.
He stated that despite free education in place, the results showed that the quality of education in Zambia has been compromised.
