THE South African government has reiterated that it hopes late former president Edgar Lungu is buried in Zambia.
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola said the South African government hopes the Constitutional Court’s latest ruling on Lungu family’s direct appeal will finally pave way for the former president’s remains to be taken back home.
Lamola said South Africa had always maintained the position that Lungu’s resting place should be Zambia.
“We have maintained this from the onset on the matter and we are hopeful that this ruling can signal some finality that he will be buried back in Zambia, in his home.”
“And that the Zambian government and the family of former president Lungu will find each other on the procession and all the processes, so it has always been our message to both parties, to the family and to the Zambian government,” said Lamola.
