Fans and industry insiders alike have been quick to interpret certain social media posts as veiled jabs at each other, fueling speculation about bad blood between the two celebrated artistes.

But when he featured on Diamond TV’s programme dubbed “On The Table” yesterday, Zambian prominent musician and producer Drimz dispelled the ongoing rumours of discord with Yo Maps by clarifying that any perceived tension between them was merely a fabrication of public imagination.

Drimz stated that Yo Maps is only living his moment while he also lives his.

He revealed that he played a role in Yo Maps’ early career, offering both financial support and mentorship and paying for his initial features and first music video.

The “Effort” hitmaker stated that he recognised Yo Maps’ budding talent and potential when the singer was still in high school, paving the way for his success by providing the necessary resources and guidance to kickstart his career in the Zambian music industry.

“I met Yo Maps when he was in Grade 11 and we worked together. I took him under my wing, introduced him to my network, and promoted his music. I don’t usually talk about this, but if there were people instrumental in his rise to fame, I was one of them. I featured on three of his songs when he was still upcoming,” recounted Drimz.

“Yo Maps wanted me to sign him, but I didn’t want to limit his growth as an artiste. I wanted him to flourish independently and be his own person. We did a lot of songs together when he was still upcoming, including ‘Keep Zambia Clean.’ I helped him promote his hit song ‘Finally’ and even paid for his first professional music video featuring Jae Cash,” he explained.

Drimz stated that he does not care about people’s perceptions as his satisfaction comes from knowing that he played a part in helping Yo Maps achieve his dreams and that motivates him.

Even after their alleged ‘complicated relationship,’ Drimz holds onto the hope that he and Yo Maps will reunite in the future and share the stage again.

“Us being found together and perform songs together will happen with time, our paths will cross,” he said.

He further reiterated his pride in Yo Maps’ success and unwavering belief in his talent.

“I’m proud of him, I saw him start and I saw his passion. Yo Maps has contributed so much to Zambian music just like all of us have,” stated Drimz.
