Speaking when he addressed journalists yesterday, the minister said this sudden rise in cases brings the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in Zambia to 49.

He disclosed that the provinces that have so far reported Mpox cases include Lusaka with 22, Copperbelt with 12, Muchinga with 9, Western with three, Northwestern, two and Central, one.

“All patients are currently stable,” he added.

Dr Muchima declared that a total of 32 cases have so far been discharged and currently, 15 people are being monitored, all of whom are under isolation.

Meanwhile, he urged the public to adopt preventive measures against the Mpox, emphasising the importance of maintaining distance from potentially infected individuals and maintaining proper hygiene.

“To protect yourself and your loved ones from Mpox, please avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting skin rashes or flu-like symptoms and if you notice such symptoms in yourself or someone you know, do not hesitate to seek medical attention at your nearest health facility,” Muchima cautioned.

“By following the necessary precautions and remaining vigilant, we can safeguard our loved ones, our communities and our country from the harmful effects of Mpox.”
